Hello,

I have currently an installation of BigBrother 1.08c (client and
server) installed on some Solaris 9 environnement. Since this Daylight
Saving Time change seem to impact many softwares (namely Java) , i
must insure that my current version is'nt impacted by the new timezone
change.

Hello,
I have currently an installation of BigBrother 1.08c (client and

Well, the current Windows client version is 1.08d. The number that
you quote is almost certain to refer to the previous incarnation of
that and not anything that would run on Solaris. It might be 1.8c,
but that would make it very old. The current version is 1.9i.

Assuming that you really are running a version of the "Better Than
Free" server and client on Solaris, the only thing you should need
to worry about is that Solaris itself is updated to reflect the
change. Internally, Unix (and related) operating systems are
effectively using "Coordinated Universal Time". The hardware clocks
do not change between time zones or with DST, those changes are
handled by the operating systems and should only affect the way
that the time is displayed, not the internal representation.

For it's part, "Big Brother" mostly handles time using the time-
stamps on the various files that it creates. These are also
blissfully unaware of any time zone or DST modifications. The way
that those values are interpreted for display to the user is
handled by the standard routines from the operating system. If
those routines didn't have the correct DST information, paging
rules that were set for a specific time window would be out of
step; tests run with "cron" or "at" would be triggered at the
wrong time but, other than that, I can't think of any other
adverse effects.

In any case, all the information that you need to keep Solaris
happy should be here:

That done, you can tick BB off your list.

On a personal note, I gave up altering clocks for DST many years
ago. I simply go to work an hour earlier in the summer and no-one
is any the wiser :)

Cheers, Phil.
